Senior Land Surveyor
Monthly Salary: $6,500-$7,540
(Mid-point)-$8,579

Supervise and coordinate the activities of field and office surveying functions and assist the Survey and Mapping Manager with supervisory and administrative functions of the Survey Services Unit.

Qualifications:
  • Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in surveying science, engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of technical surveying experience, at least three (3) years of which must have been in a position comparable to that of a field surveying Chief of Party and/or office surveying Lead Land Surveyor.
  • Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.
  • Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent is required at the time of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through training and experience equivalent to training and experience equivalent to a minimum of four (4) years of technical surveying experience, at least two (2) of which must have been in a position comparable to that of a field surveying Chief or Party or office surveying supervisor.

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent is desired but consideration will be given to those who possess a Land Surveyor-in-Training certificate.

Knowledge of:
All phases of land surveying and map preparation, including GPS and GIS; Laws and regulations pertaining to land surveying in the State of California, including the State Professional Engineers' and Land Surveyors' Act, Subdivision Map Act, and County ordinances; Principles and methods of supervision, training, motivation, counseling and discipline; Project management methods and techniques; Engineering principles, practices, and mathematics.

Ability to:
Plan, organize, direct and supervise the work of subordinates; Gather, compile and analyze engineering data and prepare technical engineering reports; Interpret and apply the provisions of the Land Surveyors Act, Subdivision Map Act, and County ordinances pertaining to land; Research land titles and determine ownership of property; Interpret and evaluate legal descriptions of real property; Analyze situations and determine appropriate courses of action; Act independently under a minimum of direction.
